There's no automatic number — approved monthly hours are based entirely on what the MDHHS-5534 home assessment documents, though a commonly-cited practical ceiling is around 180 hours a month.
What drives the number
How many ADLs require genuine hands-on help, how often throughout the day, and how much IADL support (housekeeping, meal prep, laundry) is also needed. A person needing help with three ADLs multiple times a day will typically be approved for more hours than someone needing occasional help with one.
Supervision counts, but only as an add-on
Pure supervision needs — reminders, safety check-ins — generally don't qualify a person on their own, but once a genuine ADL need is already established, supervision time can be factored into total approved hours.
Hours can change over time
