CHAMPS Login and Registration: A Caregiver's Walkthrough

A plain-language walkthrough of registering for MiLogin and CHAMPS as a Home Help individual provider, plus common errors to avoid.

CHAMPS Login and Registration: A Caregiver's Walkthrough

CHAMPS (Community Health Automated Medicaid Processing System) is where every Home Help caregiver has to enroll before they can get paid — even if you're only caring for one person.

Step 1: Create a MiLogin account

MiLogin is Michigan's identity and access system — you'll need an account here before CHAMPS is even accessible. This part is quick, usually done in one sitting.

Step 2: Request CHAMPS access and start the application

Once inside CHAMPS, select New Enrollment, then Atypical (non-medical) provider, then Individual. Home Help caregivers fall under this "atypical" category since the role isn't a licensed medical profession.

Step 3: Complete every field, then track your status

Applications must be completed within 30 days of starting them. Leaving a field blank or a document unattached is the most common reason applications get stuck in "pending" for weeks — check back into CHAMPS regularly rather than assuming no news is good news.

Common errors and fixes

  • Wrong provider type selected: you may need to withdraw and restart with the correct type.
  • Background check flagged: not always disqualifying — respond promptly to any request for clarification.
  • Missing notification emails: check spam, and verify your registered email address is correct.
